Hello Fellow Artists!
I have some exciting news to share with you! I am back to creating comic art for a published book.
I want to share some of what I have learned already through this project and give you a sneak peek at some of the work.
When I was contacted by Big Chris over at Corvus Comics I was extremely honored to be asked to work on this comic.
He asked me if I would be willing to be the inker on the Goliath comic book. I was caught off guard since I have always been a penciler for the other comics that I have worked on.
I was happy to accept anyways because I really just wanted to get back to making comics for a publisher. As you probably know, I love self publishing but I have struggled getting my books done for various reasons.
Being on a team with a schedule keeps me on track and highly focused. So this structure was something I gladly welcomed.
It also helped that their team is packed with highly talented creatives that I really wanted to learn from and work with.
Working on The Goliath Comic
I am now inking the pages for a comic on Goliath. The story of David and Goliath is as old as time but to see it come together in this amazing comic art style is something special.
The layouts are done by the talented Steve Crespo and the pencils are by the amazing Fabio Simao. Together they illustrate an amazing story that I am excited to refine with my digital inks!
Here is a page from the Goliath comic that we are working on –

I am having a great time inking these panels and learning with each new page that I finish. The layouts by Steve and the pencils by Fabio are teaching me a great deal.
By inking the work I am getting a much better sense of camera angles, expressive characters, compositions, and so on.
Mainly it helps me to recognize new and inventive ways to tell a story so I am studying the work as I add my digital inks.
Digital Inks in Procreate on the IPad Pro
I am working in the Procreate app to add my digital inks to the work. This allows me to add my lines and stay mobile which is huge for me.
Some of these pages take me 8–10 hours and I can’t stay in one spot for too long or I get a bit stir crazy.
I need a change of scenery every now and then and the Ipad Pro is perfect for that. I also like how Procreate keeps track of the time I spend on each page automatically.
Working on a page a day is no easy task so I have to be focused and aware of how my time is spent.
It also helps that if something comes up I can take my work with me and squeeze in some inking here and there.
The only real draw back of course is that I don’t end up with any original art.
Another bright side to making these comics in Procreate is that it has given me tons of ideas for new custom brushes. I have already added more brushes to my comic inking set here — https://robertmarzullo.gumroad.com/l/mgocf

Working with the Corvus Comics Team
Probably the coolest thing about this whole new adventure is working with the team over at Corvus Comics. They are truly dedicated to making these books exceptional.
Their level of professionlism is refreshing to see and be part of. They are dedicated to delivering a faith based message to the world with a cool comic art style.
I am honored to be part of this. I have been a Christian for most of my life and it is nice to be able to use my art to share these stories from the Bible.
When you have a great team of like minded individuals it really shows in the work. I can’t wait to show you some of the colored work. It looks stunning!
Working on The Moses Comic
The book on Goliath was exciting enough but then Big Chris offered me another opportunity, the Moses Comics.
I was eager to be on this project as well so I of course said yes! Let’s do this!
Same team as Goliath but this one will be a longer run of books. The story of Moses is filled with fantastic events that should be extremely exciting to help illustrate.
I also love that I am learning so much about these stories that I either forgot or just never really knew.

Full Color Comics
I will show you some of the color work as soon as I can. I can tell you this, “The colorists for these titles are AMAZING!!“
They don’t pull any punches and their exceptional color work really brings these pages to life.
That is another reason I wanted to work with these guys. They make sure that their books are top tier all around!
I hope that everyone truly appreciates the hard work that we are putting into these books.
I will keep everyone posted on the release of these comics so please follow!
Also follow and support Corvus Comics so that they can keep bringing these faith based comics to the world! https://www.instagram.com/corvuscomics
