I just have been teaching classes on Skillshare since June of 2017 and I am a big fan of the platform. It is more project based and tailored to shorter content but it can be very fun and effective! I have classes on drawing comics, character design, digital painting,  creature design, using the procreate app, and anatomy.

How to Improve Your Figure Drawing – Step by Step

How to Improve Your Figure Drawing Class
How to Improve Your Figure Drawing Class

This is my class, How to Improve Your Figure Drawing Step by Step and it has almost broke the 10K Students mark. I am super excited to know that it has helped that many artists improve their skills.

This is a basic approach to figure drawing. This entire tutorial is 3.5 hours.  I share techniques that I have used over the years to create comic book illustrations and storyboards for television.  You will learn how to systematically break down the various parts of the body into simpler shapes.  As I illustrate each area step by step you will follow along and learn from my studies.  This will give you insight into how I create my artwork and create poses from the mind.  I also share what techniques I use to improve my knowledge of the human form.  Things like gesture drawings, timed studies of the pose, negative space drawing, foreshortening, perspective, organic versus angular lines, and much more.  You will also be given a copy of the art files as a downloadable PDF that I have created here so that you can work along and study from them.  By the end of this course you should be more confident in constructing your figure drawings from the  mind and have a better understanding of the human form.

The tips and tricks from this course will make the process of drawing complex body poses much easier to accomplish.  Good luck with your art!

In this class you will learn how to draw comic style eyes just like I do. I will walk you through the process that I use to construct these eyes quickly and easily.

You will learn how to draw male and female eyes, how to draw different expressions, and how to draw eyes on an angle. Eyes are windows to the soul so if you want you characters to be more expressive for your comics this can be a great class for you!

I have created a bunch of other classes breaking down various parts on how I create comic art. IF there is a specific thing you would like to see covered don’t hesitate to let me know. I am always looking for new ways to improve the existing content or topics for new lessons.

More COMIC ART classes are on the way soon! 🙂

I just wanted to know what type of art supplies you use like pens, pencils, paper etc.

    Hello William,

My apologies for the late reply. I use 2H and HB lead on Strathmore 200 series Bristol Board Smooth. I also use a Prismacolor Kneaded eraser to soften up the lines as I rework the pencils. I use 2 different types of lead holders as well. A 2mm lead holder with a rotary sharpener and a .05 Mechanical pencil. I also think it’s a good idea to have a good rolling ruler for drawing backgrounds.

As far as pens go, I use a variety of Microns, Zebra brush pens, Posca white out pen, and a brush for large fills.

Keep in mind I do 90 percent of all my work on my iPad Pro these days so I don’t have to carry around all my art supplies.
I use Procreate and Clip Studio Paint and sometimes Sketchbook Pro.

I hope that helps and thank you for visiting my website. Good luck with your art!

    -Robert
