Digital Painting in Manga Studio 5 – Working in Perspective
In this course I walk you through using the perspective tools inside of Manga Studio 5 / Clip Studio Paint. We first delve into the basics and the setup in one, two, and three point perspective. Then I walk you through the use of the special rulers. A lot of students have expressed a certain confusion about these tools but the reason they are difficult to understand is because they have lots of options for controlling the perspective.
I demonstrate these tools and show you how to make them much easier to work with. A few programs have now adopted perspective drawing tools but none of them are as functional and versatile as these are. The special rulers alone are huge time savers for comic book illustrators.
After I run through the basics I think take you through the entire process of creating the image you see above. ( Scroll to the next slide to see the entire picture. ) The majority of this course is all in real time with only small amounts time lapsed in areas where I have already explained the process in real time and didn’t want to bore you with repetition.
I also teach you how to setup and edit your work efficiently by making proper use of the groups and layers. As well as give you a better understanding of the blending modes.
By the end of this 5 hour course you will have worked through the entire image with me and learned what techniques I use to create my digital paintings.
With this course you get –
-19 Step by Step Video Lessons ( 5 hours of Narrated Content )
-City Scape Art File – Manga Studio 5 Format ( You can also request a PSD )
-Custom brushes that I used in this course
Like any other products you get from me on my Gumroad I am here to help you with any questions you have. I appreciate your support so don’t hesitate to ask, and giving me feedback for future lessons is greatly appreciated!
Clip Studio Paint / Manga Studio 5 Custom Brush Demonstration
Here is a sample from the new brushes that I created for Clip Studio Paint Pro / Manga Studio 5. These are some of the Dragon Scales and Spike brushes. This little mess you see here was created in about 15 minutes so don’t judge me yet! I just want to test them out and see what I can create with them. Like anything else, the more that I use them the better I will get. I hope anyways! I actually don’t think this came out too bad for just playing around. Imagine if I actually started with a good sketch.
So I just wanted to give you a quick demonstration of these brushes and let you know how they work if you decide to try them or already have them. Basically they are a two tone effect. The brighter side of the effect will be your foreground color and the darker side will be the background color. ( The swatch that you see in Black is the background color in this example. )
Then once you put down enough of the texture to create your effect, you need to bring it out further with things like a soft brush set to “Linear Burn” for shadows and “Glow Dodge” for highlights. This will help to bring out the effects without covering up the details like “Normal” mode will. You can also add shadow colors with “Multiply” as well for a nice effect.
The Spike brush goes with the push of the pen so keep that in mind for getting them in the right place. The brushes used in this demonstration are here –
I am currently working on a new set of custom brushes for Clip Studio Paint Pro and Manga Studio 5. These brushes will be to enhance your digital painting efforts and some will be great time savers. There will be some stamp effects but most of these will be more of a texture and effects set. I am currently at about 20 brushes into the creation process but the complete set will be 50 brushes and some background patterns by the time it is complete.
You can get the set and the available brushes now and get a reduced rate for pre-purchasing them. It helps me to build and audience while bringing in working capital and you get to be the first to have these brushes. You can also give vital constructive feedback during this process. So if you notice something that could be better I am all ears. Likewise, if you think of a neat brush concept then I can do my best to create it and add it to this set or another.
There are 18 brushes available right now and counting….
